First Piece Inspection

what is first piece inspection? 

first piece inspection is a proper check on the product after it came out from machine
Whenever you finish set up a machine, the piece came out from the machine must be checked to ensure this production is safe to continue; and if defect found, we must rework the system/machine before redo the first piece inspection.

There is 2 type of inspection can be categorized in this aspect

1. First piece of product that go out from the machine
In this category, engineer or technician will set up the machine using his own skill according to the requirement. After the setting is finish, the machine will run the first pieces. The first output produce is taken to check  by inspector. Usually the first output going out from the machine will have some\problem.

2. First good product declared by engineer: 
After engineer/technician setting up the  machine, they the engineer will resolve everything until he certain that the machine is in good condition. In this situation, he may produce several product. After first run, he may found 4 defect (example: uneven size, over heat, output dirty, mechanical not functioning), during the second teest run, he already resolve the problem and the output is good. Engineer will declare that the machine is stable. Thus, next output produce by the machine will be taken out to be check in first piece inspection.

Who should check the first piece inspection? 

In any industry, system doesn't care who should do what job as long as the production go smooth and no loss occur. 
"the best person who should do the job is the best person that can do the job"
In this matter, there are some level of who should do the nspection
  1. QA Engineer: this is the person responsible for any defect that go out from factory. QA must check whether he satisfy with the product or not. 
  2. Process Engineer: if QA engineer is not around, process engineer should take his place. Process engineer know better about the system/machine and any defect found on the first piece inspection can be resolve directly.
  3. QA Inspector: normally, this person will do all the check. He is proven good in inspection(bettter that QA engineer). Because of the position is non-engineering, QA inspector cannot be a person to give instruction  or desicion. He is better became advisor to any engineer.

Company Profile

Day 2 at Grandeur

Let me tell you about my company. We are a plastic supplier to some other company, my company use vacuum forming machine as its main processing machine. 


How we make our product?
The process is quite simple, here how it work
note: this picture is not own by me.
1. from the mechine end: plastic film in rolled is feed to machine
2. inside machine, the first part it will go through heater chamber
 (in this place, plastic is melted at 300degree celcius (for my product)
3. then the plastic is moved to machine-front side. here mold will clamp the plastic and its shaped        according to mold shape.
4. the product will move to the yellow side. here iis cutting process, to cut into individual pieces.

Day 1 at New Company

Today I wake up early to go to my new company, 7.15am; I stuck in a bad traffic jam and when it came to the junction, I took the wrong way. Luckily I manage to arrive at the company on time.


So, what do I do during my first day at this company?

8.30am : I meet Mr Leong, the General Manager. He is the man incharge of managing this company and report anything to headquarters at Spore.

9.00am : Manager Leong take me to plan tour, to see the production and see what operator are doing. He told me what are current defect in production, where he need me to improve and what kind of improvement he expect from me.

10.00am, : my bos left me in QA room, tell me to see around and study by myself.


                ** so, my job started  whay should i do??**

As a QA, there is some question playing in my mind.

1. what is the name of our product?
2. who is our customer/ we are supplying this product to what company?
3. who is our bigger customer?
4. what kind of reject we are facing?

Here is the thing I do when I start sitting on my chair

1. I list down all the question in my notebook

2. Go to office, ask everyone their name and position, asking who is the person that I need to alway alert when something happen.

3.  Play around with the PC, there are many thing on the desktop, the file look not-organise very well
I make my new folder, name it QA GRANDEUR FILE.  Inside it I put some folder

So, that what I did during my first day at my new company, GRANDEUR PARK.

good bye my old company

Yesterday, 6 feb 2015 was my last day at venture company. Already 6 month 2 day, I graduate as process engineer for Amway Department. The last moment is akward moment, the feel of belonging stick me to this company.

During the first hour, I just do my job normally, I can feel the extra happiness like I am about to leave a  hell to a peace place. Then I compile all the file together,put in one folder with nice manner : easy for new engineer to take the place after me.

Last job: I got meet all the operator that work with me, say sorry and get a lot of congratulation for my new company. the I got see my manager and other engineer, take a last moment picture so that 1 day I can tell my child who are them to me.

INTRODUCTION

Hi, My name is Adam, Today (1.12am, 30 Jan 2015), I still working at my current company Venture Sdn Bhd, an electronic company as Process Engineer. We are a third party manufacturing company where's we do a product for our customer. From zero, we buy the part, fabricate, do the top level assembly and when the product is finished, we stamp our customer logo on the product. People from all the world see this thing and say this product is very good! The company brand is very good!
See? Our customer get th name, we get the tired.

Here where it begin, I posting in this blog to share my experience of becoming a Quality Control Engineer, if my current company do Top Level Assembly, at this company we are subcon for a Hard Drive company.

The main objective that my General Manager hire me as QA was to create a systematic standart for the operation at this company. I must do a proper report, a traceable output progress,  aa racking data for any improvement that this company do. In engineering ter, he want me to start using ISO9001: Quality Management System in daily operation.

I will try to keep update on what I do in day one at this company, how I observe on what to do, what kind of question I ask to everyone to start understanding the situation and also what the record that I crate to simplify my job.

By the way, I will sign contract with this company on next saturday/31/1/2015.
